I can almost guarantee you that if Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were good remakes and not just 98% the same game from the originals people wouldn’t conveniently forget that Game Freak didn’t make them. They’d be singing their praises every chance they would get.
But because TPC gave them to an app development team and not any of the many teams who have developed Pokemon spin-off games and who actually knows how to make a full game without copying it, of course Game Freak gets the blame most of the time for a game they didn’t even make. (Nor did GF choose who made them.)

reject humanity become PONY (info under cut)
featherscale (they/them) is a genderfluid pegasus whose cutie mark is that of a dragon for their special talent: dragon handling! they have a home in canterlot as a royal dragon specialist, but they're really nomadic at heart and love studying dragon lifestyles, like migration patterns and such!
i forgor to put it on them but they probably have a good few scars from some accidents with dragons, like burns or claw marks. their tail fans are actually individual big, thick feathers that make them a very agile flyer! think like night fury tail fans :)
and bc i am cringe and free, they are friends with the mane six, especially fluttershy and twilight, but they love all six of them >:)
(please note, i have really only watched seasons 1-4, i tried 5-9 but i can't stand them so,,, idk/idc about any future dragon characters i'm sorry LMAO)

But also with me looking at all these Pokémon Let’s Go designs, can I just say the game’s designs are absolute bangers? They all look so good, and I feel like they just enhance the original designs
This applies to all the designs by the way, I just happen to have all the Gym Leader designs to demonstrate my point
I know people don’t gel well with Let’s Go because of the different gameplay style, as well as being another Kanto remake, but the designs are so good
I really want a Johto remake now with this art style, I’d love to see the characters get these kinds of redesigns
Not to mention Johto’s at this point the region with the oldest art/designs (I mean that technically applies to Sinnoh as well, since the remakes didn’t update the designs or give the characters new designs, but regardless), I’d say they should get an update too

i think, and this may just be my zekrom bias speaking, that if someone wants to experience the full value of bw's story it's better to play through white first. black has the issue of coming off as very dismissive towards plasma's legitimate and well-founded claims that pokemon abuse DOES occur (and it does! from the kanto games' marowak to bw2's liepard there's instances where it's put in the spotlight, so it certainly does happen)... by assigning the protagonist to truth, it feels pretty evident that n's beliefs are "wrong", and the game just seems to brush any questioning aside.
on the other hand, white giving n the hero of truth role means we're basically forced to think about what that means for the relationship of people and pokemon at large. to translate a point n makes in chargestone cave: if you allow people to coexist with pokemon, even if the majority of trainers treat them well, there will always be someone somewhere out there who abuses or neglects them instead. are we okay with that? should those pokemon still be allowed to suffer, just because what they experience is an outlier to the general rule? while not outright stated, zekrom's association with hope and the strive for the ideal suggests that we don't brush off these facts, but instead take them into consideration, and aim to change the world based off of them... like how in bw2 society in unova puts a lot more emphasis on the bond between people and pokemon, and on pokemon as equals (see: iris's dialogue before entering your team info the hall of fame).
i think black version has its own unique avenues to explore, but on the surface level, it's a much more cut and dry, "no, you're just wrong", type of story that kind of makes you work harder to fit it into bw's overall theming of "the world's not black and white, there's not a singular objective right or wrong perspective."

BDSP was fine, y'all just mean
Tumblr media
Kinda kidding but not really as I know it's a hot take
Written Feb 6th 2024
Not saying some of the dislike wasn't worth it
But the problem wasn't with ILCA it's the base game of Diamond and Pearl
A lot of people's complaints basically sum up that they didn't incorporate Platinum into the game
Mainly from Pokemon available, with some mentioning the Giratina distortion world and such plus other changes that platinum had from DP like battle frontier differences
On one hand yes it would have been nice if they did make some more changes like implementing more Platinum story elements making it more of a definitive Sinnoh experience
But also it's DP remakes not Platinum remakes
Similar with ORAS and FRLG they had some new stuff and revamped stuff. But it's not like FRLG had Yellow elements (that's lets go) and ORAS had a lot of Emerald. At most the Delta episode for ORAS was their workaround for no Emerald so if you want to group that as the full game then sure BDSP needed some DLC but then you have the DLC dilemma is getting the platinum stuff worth an extra $20-$30 dollars and have that dlc debate
The underground solved a lot of the issues imo
The underground having Pokemon down there personally solved a lot of the Pokemon availability problem
For example, I picked Turtwig so I wasn't just limited to Ponyta for a fire type since I didn't pick Chimchar I had options as Magby and Houndour were now available, which fixes the fire type problem imo
And I think people overreact about the changes to the bases and flag capturing as yes it would have been nice if they were the same but I think the changes outweigh it greatly. Plus if ORAS showed anything people really didn't care to have the secret bases as secret bases and just liked it for nostalgia mainly
Not saying BDSP was perfect but I do think in a lot of aspects it is the definitive Sinnoh experience as you're basically just missing the Giratina story which isn't as necessary to the plot imo
As it kinda just seems like Yellow, Crystal, Emerald and Platinum were seen as definitive because they don't have the dual version conundrum so they seem more complete in compariso. But when the dual version games get additional content is the additional usually third legendary plot really worth it?
Maybe maybe not
And I know a lot of rumors about potential Johto or Unova remakes have been going on and people are worried as they didn't like BDSP
But if for example ILCA makes the remakes and has the chibi style and etc
But they fix the level scaling in Johto or something like Pokemon availability for Unova I think those would be better even if minimal changed
I do have my own hopes and wishes for potential remakes but I will wait until they are officially announced

So you all know how everyone is like “oh it’s been 10 years since Pokémon Gen whatever came out, where’s? The remake?!?!” But here’s the thing guys, there’s a pattern you are all missing and it’s not based on the year the game came out, it’s based on the generation. (There’s only one remake that breaks this rule) Let me explain. In a timeline without years:
Gen 1 comes out
Gen 2 comes out
Gen 3 comes out
Gen 1 remakes come out
Gen 4 comes out
Gen 2 remakes come out
Gen 5 comes out
Gen 6 comes out
Gen 3 remakes come out
Gen 7 comes out
Gen 8 comes out
Gen 4 remakes come out
Gen 9 come out
Present day
Do you see the pattern? Let me explain if you didn’t. The remakes all except the Gen 1 remakes come out after it’s doubled. Gen 4 remakes came out after Gen 8, 4 x 2 = 8, Gen 3 remakes after Gen 6, 3 x 2 =6, etc etc. only the first Gen breaks this rule which makes sense cause that would be super fast for a remake. So when will Gen 5 remakes come out? After Gen 10 comes out. Gen 6 remakes? After Gen 12. And so on and so forth until they stop making new generations then a new pattern with form. Anyway if I’m wrong with this for Gen 5 then I’m wrong but if I’m right the pattern holds strong and imma trust the pattern tbh.

random question but does anyone else miss the Pokestars studios from B2W2?
Though it doesn't do much gameplay wise it was still such a fun concept.
You could make movies with you're own Pokemon (though you had to first make it with a rental mon, then you could use you're own). Movies have two/three endings that depend on what you're character says and what moves you use. These endings are Good, Bad and Strange (with Strange actually being better than Good)
There's multiple costumes depending on the movie you're making. You could be a prince/princess, superhero, scientist and more. And you can see these outfits from the comic book styled panels that appear when you watch the movies.
You can get fans, and you can also get some items. But something REALLY cool was that if you make a movie with one of you're Pokemon and got the strange ending, you're Pokemon gains a special animation when you send it out. Kinda like Shiny Pokemon or the animation for N's Pokemon that you could catch if you used the memory link.
Ultimately it's nothing huge or game changing, but it was still so cool and a feature that I really miss.
